From wood to sound

A report by Felipe Pachon

At the end of April, we trainees were able to visit a manufacturer of keyboards. After our arrival, we received a friendly welcome and started the day with a joint discussion with the management and production management. This gave us a good insight into the organisation of the company, the philosophy behind the production and the various products that are manufactured there.

We were particularly impressed by the subsequent tour of the production areas, where we were able to follow the individual stages of product manufacture – from the selection of the wood to processing and final assembly.

Rethinking paper

A report by Finnjo Gräbke

On Friday, 7 March 2025, we had the opportunity to visit the Steinbeis paper mill in Glückstadt and gain an exciting insight into sustainable paper production. We were welcomed on site by Jan, who gave us a brief introduction to the history, structure and sustainable production of the company.

Our tour of the production halls then began. We first went to the sorting hall, where the waste paper delivered is separated from foreign materials such as plastic or cardboard. We then moved on to the hall where the sorted waste paper is processed. Here, the waste paper is dissolved in large drums with water and other additives so that the fibres separate from each other. The so-called deinking process uses soap and air to remove printing inks and impurities, which brightens the fibres without using aggressive bleach.

A report by our trainee Charlotte Junge

In May 2024, I was given the opportunity to travel abroad for 9 days to our subsidiary PAPERFAST s.r.l. in Pavia, Italy.

I was greeted warmly by Maria, the sales representative, and escorted to my apartment. The next day started with a get-to-know-you breakfast with Maria and Matilde. We then went to the office, where I was able to gain an insight into the company’s operations and activities.

During my stay, I was able to get a lot of impressions of the office. I was able to travel with the managing director, Umberto, to one of his other companies in Milan. This is a real shop for office supplies, copy paper and stationery, and a warehouse for the goods.
