Total makeover – a new look for our office

Finally, we can happily say: rebuilding the office while remaining at service demanded a lot from everyone, but the result was worth the effort.

After a planning period of two years and a rebuilding period of 12 months, divided into three phases, we were finally able to move into the last offices.  The complete redesign was a result of the previous total office gutting.

Extreme Makeover

We did not only increase our office area enormously. Modern interiors such as partitions, which offer opportunities for retreat and concentrated work, as well as glass elements, which provide light and transparency, are a significant component of the optical change. The offices are now equipped with new lighting technology and elements for optimized room acoustics. Height-adjustable desks also offer perfect comfort for individual working. All this enables our employees to achieve nearly ideal and modern working conditions.

Coping with challenges during Corona

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a big impact on the world. Our work is also influenced in different ways. For the safety of all colleagues, business partners and customers, we of course adhere to the regulations of the government and the guidelines of the authorities.

The biggest challenge was the technical implementation so that employees can work from home. Luckily, our IT structure is technologically advanced enough to meet the requirements and additional notebooks were purchased in due time. Meanwhile, working from home has become an important part of our working environment. Calls are automatically forwarded to the colleagues at home. Since some work processes and tasks can be managed only from the office and not all employees work from home, we are on site, even if only in a small number.

A return ticket to the Finnish forests

In February began for Henning Reck his first trip to the forests of Finland. After he had completed his studies in the wood science a few months earlier and started working for Jacob Jürgensen, it was time for him to prove his skills in practice.

Henning Reck, February 2020

Despite hurricane Sabine the Finnish airline was the only to brave the flight from Hamburg to Helsinki. Johanna Kaitaranta, a native Finn and team leader of Team Nordic, had organised a typical Finnish forest cottage for my stay. As a city slicker, I was able to enjoy the wide open spaces and solitude of the Finnish forests and, in addition to my work, I could also experience a touch of Finnish flair.

Since May 2019, Mrs. Anna Heinz has reinforced the Larch team. Anna Heinz was born in Kazakhstan and worked after her studies as a German teacher in Russia. In 1996, she came to Germany, where she completed her apprenticeship as a management assistant for wholesale and foreign trade. In various companies, Anna Heinz gained different experience in import and export processing. We are happy to have her as support in the team Larch.

Our trainee team also gained growth in August of this year. With a total of 10 people, the JJ team made its appearance at the starting line of the Hamburger Cyclassics 2019 and tried its best under perfect weather conditions on the 60 and 100 kilometers route. The mood was already at a high level before the start and found its climax in the following gathering with delicious food and plenty of cool drinks.

With a breathtaking atmosphere and plenty of motivating cheers from the crowd, many of the JJ team riders were able to set new personal bests – others were pleased with their debut at the Cyclassics and their place in the JJ team.

Outstanding and important to mention is the support of the team by current and former business partners/friends of the company such as Marcin Kowalski, who enjoyed the 100 km track. In the course of time, several partners of “Jacob Jürgensen” have been at the starting line in the name of the company. Rainer Pusswald (2013, ø km / h 40.83 / 160 km), Fabian Wendt (2019, ø km / h 37.15 / 60 km) and Matt Pryor (2007, ø km / h 40.39 / 160 km) for instance, were even able to achieve remarkable times.

A report by our trainee Anna Richter

The MOPO-Run is an event hosted by the Hamburger Morgen Post, a local newspaper in Hamburg. At this event, multiple teams of different companies from Hamburg are running a distance of about 5 km in the heart of the Stadtpark (our green lung).

This year, the event took place at the same time as our annual JJ summer get-together. Therefore every colleague was attending to support our teams “Treibholz” (driftwood) and “Flugblatt” (flyer).

While our runners put a lot of effort into their physical participation to run their best time, the otherstried to put a lot of effort into the clearing of the barbeque buffet.
