The western larch (Larix occidentalis) grows in valleys and on the lower slopes of the mountains in the central part of the Rocky Mountains and near the coast in the neighboring states of the USA and Canada. Locally, we work with selected sawmills in the Canadian states of British Columbia and Alberta.

The wood has typical characteristics of larch: due to its wood constituents, it has a certain naturally resistant to rot and decay. For this reason, Canadian larch is successfully used as a substitute for products made from Siberian larch.

In addition, western larch is characterized by high strength, hardness and a straight grain. It is qualitatively similar to Siberian larch in many respects. Western larch can be distinguished by an occasional reddish color and a different knot pattern. It is a long-term solution for outdoor use, without ground contact and it has low maintenance requirements.

In the Baltic Sea ports of Kiel and Lübeck, we maintain stocks of sawn timber made from western larch in many common qualities, dimensions and lengths. The stock is ready for delivery in just a few days and is largely FSC® or PEFC certified.

Our PEFC or FSC®-certified European larch (Larix decidua) is produced locally in Germany and has the advantage of short transport distances. The larch wood dries quickly and shrinks only marginally.

The sawn timber is cut to order by our producers, which enables us to offer almost any conceivable dimension on customer request.

Sawn timber in Siberian larch (Larix sibirica) is currently still available in remaining stocks from our warehouse in Kiel. All further timber imports from Russia have been stopped with the introduction of sanctions in 2022.

Please ask us about available dimensions and qualities.

Depending on the growing conditions, the slow-grown larch is characterized in particular by its narrow-grained structure. The high density of Western larch compared to other softwoods ensures its high hardness and good dimensional stability.

Due to the resistance of larch wood and its attractive appearance, larch is traditionally used for garden fences, wooden facades and decking. The natural resistance of larch is due to the higher concentration of certain phenolic and other substances in the heartwood compared to other softwoods. The high proportion of heartwood in larch makes its use particularly attractive.
