Recently, Jacob Juergensen Wood GmbH has started a cooperation with the NGO Fairventures Worldwide (FVW). FVW has started a global initiative of reforestation with focus in Indonesia, Uganda and Germany under the principle “Good forests are climate solutions”.
Our company imports albasia falcata plywood and blockboards from Indonesia for many years already. Within the framework of this new cooperation, we support FVW with their ambitious goals from now on:
- For every cubic metre plywood being produced, we consume 1.5 trees
- This calculation is based on the assumption that a tree is aprox. 15 metres high and comes with a diameter of aprox. 35 cm
- For every cubic metre we purchase in Indonesia, we plant three trees – hence double the volume of our consumption
- With every container we purchase, we therefore plant aprox. 150 trees
If you want to participate in our reforestation project, we will gladly assist you to find the right product for your application.
Albasia Plywood
Our albasia falcata plywood and blockboard from Indonesia is currently being used in different industry sectors such as automotive, caravan and RV, yachts, fair and shop building, etc. Our panels usually stay in their applications for many years which makes them an ideal CO2-binding product for a longer period of time.
Albasia comes with another advantage: it grows fast and is harvestable after seven to ten years. After harvesting the tree, it does not have to be planted again – instead it leafs out again.
Every time a tree is harvested and a new sapling leafs out, CO2 is being sequestered. Thanks to the long-term use of our panels within a bigger industry product, the sequestered CO2 is saved for years. Therefore, we can say that our product contributes to a sustainable future.
Sustainability is a constant component in our DNA
Sustainability is the biggest challenge of our time. As a traditional importer of forest products, sustainability has always been part of our company’s DNA.
Due to different factors such as drought, heat, fire, transformation into agricultural and livestock land etc., between 2010 and 2020 the overall forest area in the world has shrunk by 4.7 million hectares, according to an official study of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Since 1990 the shrinkage is as much as 178 million hectares. However, forest areas in Europe, Asia and Oceania have been successfully increasing over the past ten years.
Thanks to our 140 years of experience we are fully aware of the fact that we can only survive by thinking and living sustainable. As we are very close to the producers in the country of origin of our products, we want to actively support the reforestation in these places.
Consequently, the cooperation with Fairventures Worldwide was a logical step. FWV has committed itself to the principle “Good forests are climate solution” and campaigns for more protection of the environment and economical growth in the Global South.
FWV has a full scope concept for reforestation which is implemented together with small agricultural farmers in Indonesia and Uganda. The concept includes modern forest management and technologies to reforest degraded forest areas in the tropes. Based on that, sustainable forests arise providing both lumber and fruit-bearing trees. In the shadows of these trees, local farmers can grow cash crops such as coffee or cocoa. Like that, FVW secures a steady and regular income for the local population. Needless to say that in result of the reforestation, biodiversity grows, too and hence actively counteracts climate change.
