The Canadian Mountain Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca) is a heartwood-forming conifer from the pine family (Pinaceae) and a close relative of the larch. It originates from the mountainous regions of North America, particularly the Rocky Mountains and adjacent areas. This resilient tree thrives even in cold temperatures and on dry soils.

Thanks to its excellent mechanical properties, the Rocky Mountain Douglas fir is ideal for structural timber construction. Its resilient heartwood is often used outdoors due to its resistance to fungal decay. The uniform grain also makes it attractive for furniture production. Additionally, it impresses with its appealing reddish hue.

We stock sawn timber made from Canadian mountain Douglas fir in many common grades, dimensions, and lengths. We maintain close cooperation with our selected producers in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, supported by regular factory visits. Our stock is ready for delivery within a few days and is FSC® or PEFC certified.

The Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir and the Coastal Douglas-fir differ in their wood properties due to the varying growing conditions that shape them.

Thanks to its slower growth, the Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir has denser growth rings and a higher raw density. As a result, it possesses particularly strong mechanical properties, making it more robust and load-bearing than the Coastal Douglas-fir.

The Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir also has a more uniform wood structure and is visually especially appealing. In terms of its properties and durability, it is comparable to larch, but stands out with its pleasantly reddish tone.
