Andreas von Möller, managing partner of Jacob Jürgensen GmbH & Co. KG, is celebrating his 70th birthday on September 18th.

Von Möller was born as a son of a timber merchant in Hamburg. After graduating from high school and university, he started his career at Continental Grain, an international grain trader, followed by wood marketing activities at Müller & Sohn AG. Since 1984, he has been part of the management at JJ-Group.

During his active period as CEO and partner von Möller merged the two timber companies to today´s Jacob Jürgensen Wood GmbH. As part of the JJ-Group, he took care of overlapping tasks such as a key role in the development of the current shareholder structure. In this time internationalization of the company was strengthened, gaining an outstanding position particularly in recent years. Furthermore, the product line was extended and the JJ-Group changed from pure agency to a service and salescompany.

A total of 2052 teams and 10260 runners reached the finish line at the 11th MOPO Team Relay in Hamburg City Park. A JJ team participated for the second time and helped together with the other teams to gather money for an educational trail for wood species in the city park.

It was the first real summer day in Hamburg this year, when our JJ team took part in the relay. A mixed team dressed in JJ – t-shirts, motivated, ambitious and full of energy, made their way towards Hamburg City Park where there was a cheerful atmosphere and a warm welcome.

Once we had collected our start numbers, we went to get the sponsored picnic basket. Whilst some team members started the warm up, the otherslooked for a nice area for our BBQ.

„Solidia Hansa-kauppaa“ – Our business model translated into Finnish

posted in: Wood | 0

We are pleased about the exciting report on Jacob Jürgensen Wood GmbH in the August issue of the Finnish timber magazine Puumies (directly translated “Timberman”). We now learn that not only we at Jacob Jürgensen are proud of our Hanseatic trading tradition, but a solid Hansa trade is also a term in Finland: “solidia Hansa-kauppaa“.

The article describes our company history, the product range and our global activities. “At Jacob Jürgensen, we have always looked positively ahead and back in time. Our absolute strengths, both in a good and a bad economic environment, are our professional employees, our broad product range and our global network.” Rolf von Loßberg, Managing Director of JJ Wood, summarizes

A special focus in the Puumies article is, of course, on our trade with Scandinavia, where Jacob Jürgensen Wood has a tradition of more than 135 years. We are working closely together with our old and new Finnish partners and are continuously developing our product mix in Nordic spruce and pine. “Finnish wood production has a very good reputation in Germany and new innovations from Finland are always interesting on this market” says Johanna Kaitaranta, director of the Scandinavian salesteam at JJ Wood.

Shifting up the gear at Cyclassics in Hamburg

posted in: General | 0

On Sunday, 20th August, a strong team of 13 JJ colleagues and guests stood on the starting line for the 60 km and 120 km courses at the Cyclassics in Hamburg.

The weather at start was quite cool, but after a rainy summer in Hamburg, at least dry. So we were all in a good mood and the ones heading for 120 km course were excited about the new route along the Elbdeich.

It was once again fantastic: slipstreaming, finding faster groups, keeping up with them, accelerating out of the curve –just shifting up the gear and enjoying! All team members reached safe and sound the finish line, very happy and dry.

We supply the bedding industry with bed slats and side rails in birch and beech, made of laminated rotary cut veneer in the best quality. Our range also includes planed solid wood elements in spruce and beech.

Light weight solutions with albasia

posted in: Wood | 0

Whether industrial matters or constructional use – weight of wood plays a major role. However, the general availability of poplar plywood as lightweight solution shortens further. Now there is an innovative substitute product which weighs even less than poplar and is 100% sustainable.

The availability of poplar plywood is going down and at the same time the demand for light weight plywood is increasing steadily. Our solution: albasia as even lighter alternative to poplar. The medium density of albasia is at approx. 320 kg per m³, that is about 15% lighter than poplar. On top of that, albasia is growing on sustainable plantations, is both FLEGT-licensed and FSC®-certified.
