Sustainability has been a significant topic also before Greta Thunberg and FridaysForFuture. However, these days it becomes more important than it ever was. On top of that, the importance of transparency of supply chains including the traceability of timber origins has increased also because of the EU Timber Regulation. At Jacob Juergensen Wood, we concern ourselves with these topics for many years already. A return ticket to the Finnish forests

posted in: General | 0

In February began for Henning Reck his first trip to the forests of Finland. After he had completed his studies in the wood science a few months earlier and started working for Jacob Jürgensen, it was time for him to prove his skills in practice.

Henning Reck, February 2020

Despite hurricane Sabine the Finnish airline was the only to brave the flight from Hamburg to Helsinki. Johanna Kaitaranta, a native Finn and team leader of Team Nordic, had organised a typical Finnish forest cottage for my stay. As a city slicker, I was able to enjoy the wide open spaces and solitude of the Finnish forests and, in addition to my work, I could also experience a touch of Finnish flair.

A report by our trainee Anna Richter

On Monday, November 11, 2019 we drove to the factory for corrugated cardboard Lünewell in Lüneburg.

As we arrived the purchasing manager Mr. Langhoff gave us a friendly welcome and started our tour with some background informations. The affiliated company Cartoflex has been processing corrugated cardboard into packing cartons for 35 years, since 2012 the newly founded company Lünewell is now producing corrugated cardboard itself.

After a short walk across the terrain, we enter the main building and are soon located in a huge hall, where you already recognize by the smell that paper is processed here.  Mr. Langhoff leads us further into the hall so that we are able to see the warehouse better.

With a total of 10 people, the JJ team made its appearance at the starting line of the Hamburger Cyclassics 2019 and tried its best under perfect weather conditions on the 60 and 100 kilometers route. The mood was already at a high level before the start and found its climax in the following gathering with delicious food and plenty of cool drinks.

With a breathtaking atmosphere and plenty of motivating cheers from the crowd, many of the JJ team riders were able to set new personal bests – others were pleased with their debut at the Cyclassics and their place in the JJ team.

Outstanding and important to mention is the support of the team by current and former business partners/friends of the company such as Marcin Kowalski, who enjoyed the 100 km track. In the course of time, several partners of “Jacob Jürgensen” have been at the starting line in the name of the company. Rainer Pusswald (2013, ø km / h 40.83 / 160 km), Fabian Wendt (2019, ø km / h 37.15 / 60 km) and Matt Pryor (2007, ø km / h 40.39 / 160 km) for instance, were even able to achieve remarkable times.
